Announcement:

Finance Ireland Partners with Bord Gáis Energy to Launch 0% Interest Solar Finance Solution

Finance Ireland is delighted to announce its partnership with Bord Gáis Energy to introduce a new 0% interest finance solution for residential rooftop solar panels, helping to make renewable energy more affordable and accessible to households across Ireland.

The initiative, officially launched on 1 October 2026 with Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O’Brien, enables eligible homeowners to spread the cost of installing rooftop solar panels through a 0% APR finance solution provided by Finance Ireland.

Under the new offering, customers pay an upfront deposit of just €99 and can apply to borrow between €4,000 and €10,500 over a period of two to four years, with 0% interest and no finance charges.

Addressing the Cost of Solar Installation

The 0% offering comes as new research commissioned by Bord Gáis Energy highlights the significant role that upfront costs and borrowing expenses play in homeowners’ decisions to invest in solar energy.

The research found that 64% of people currently considering solar panels identify upfront costs and the cost of borrowing as barriers to installation. Furthermore, 83% of those considering solar indicated that access to a genuine 0% APR payment plan would make them more likely to proceed with an installation within the next year.

By removing interest charges and allowing customers to spread the cost of installation over an agreed term, the new finance solution aims to address one of the principal barriers to solar adoption.

Supporting Ireland’s Transition to Renewable Energy

More than 190,000 homes and businesses across Ireland are already generating their own electricity, with over one million homes potentially suitable for solar energy.

The partnership brings together Bord Gáis Energy’s experience in providing energy solutions to Irish households with Finance Ireland’s lending expertise, supporting greater access to renewable energy technology.

Speaking at the launch, Damien Daly, Chief Operating Officer at Finance Ireland, said:

“Finance Ireland is delighted to support Bord Gáis Energy on this project. Now more than ever the advantages of solar energy are becoming clearer by the day. We share the aim of Bord Gáis Energy to make solar energy more accessible to Irish households and we are delighted to be involved in this innovative, customer friendly initiative.”

Catherine Lonergan, Director of Customer and Commercial at Bord Gáis Energy, welcomed the partnership, stating:

“We’re proud to partner exclusively with Finance Ireland to offer this 0% interest solar finance solution to Irish households. This latest offering adds to the range of services and solutions that we are investing in to help customers and provide more solutions to support them on their energy journey.”

The initiative was also welcomed by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien, who described it as a significant step forward in making rooftop solar more accessible to households across Ireland.

“Initiatives such as this from the energy sector can help make rooftop solar more affordable and encourage more households to make the switch to renewable energy.”
